Forty
years ago, when business ownership was largely a man's world, Betty Comer
started Gibson's Music. Fueled by her dreams, and undaunted by the many
challenges facing her, Betty opened the first location of Gibson's Music at
311 South Main Street. The small store stocked pianos, sheet music and
books. Betty, who taught piano lessons part-time for many years, increased
her teaching volume to 50 students a week at $2.00 per lesson.
With an eye for the future, Betty relocated Gibson’s Music to it's present
location of 112 South Main Street in 1982, and expanded her showroom in
1996. Gibson's Music is now the authorized dealer for some of the finest
instrument lines such as Martin, Taylor, and Gibson Guitars; Baldwin and
Kawai Pianos; Hammond Organs; Peavey Sound Equipment, and Yamaha Keyboards.
Gibson's boasts a talented staff offering piano, guitar and voice lessons.
Betty has achieved a level of success throughout the years of which all the
business community of Corbin can be proud. She also deserves appreciation
from business women everywhere as one of the pioneers paving the way for
women to become an economic force in their communities. Our congratulations
to Betty and her staff for their continuing success serving not only our
community, but customers throughout the tri-state region.
